Festivities in Honour of Our Lady of the Snows

The festivities in honour of Our Lady das Neves, in Rio de Moinhos, open on 30 July with the rosary, the novena and Mass, under the theme 'Walking Through Life'. The 5th of August is the patron saint's day, announced at dawn with mortar salutes. On the closing Sunday there is a solemn open-air Mass with a sermon, sung by the Grupo Coral de Marinhas, and in the afternoon the procession in honour of Our Lady das Neves takes place; at the end of the day the new festivities committee is sworn in.

Rio de Moinhos is a hamlet in Marinhas, in the municipality of Esposende, on the Minho coastline. The parish has Saint Michael the Archangel as its patron, whose church houses a Romanesque mural and two funerary sarcophagi. It is now part of the civil parish union of Esposende, Marinhas e Gandra, amid farmland and the sea.
