biography
The Rancho Folclórico 'As Moleirinhas' de Marinhas was founded on 1 January 1982 by the Centro Social da Juventude Unida de Marinhas, a non-profit social solidarity association. The group's name is inspired by the 'moleirinhas', the women who were once dedicated to milling, and its early years were marked by the collection of songs, lyrics and costumes connected to the traditional work of the mills.
The first public performance took place on 14 November 1982 and the group quickly gained recognition in Portugal and abroad, with its first international tour in 1990. In 1998 it recorded its first CD and, in 1999, a children's version was created. Today, the group has around 50 members and continues to celebrate and preserve the traditions of milling through dance and song.
