history

The Grand Festival in honour of Our Lady da Estrela fills the village of Boassas, in Oliveira do Douro (Cinfães), for three days in August. It opens with mortar salvos and music, continues with the Grupo de Bombos de Santa Maria parading through the village and the entire parish, and reaches its peak on Sunday: dawn celebrations, the arrival of the bands, a majestic procession with biblical figures from Porto Antigo to Boassas, a sung Mass with a sermon at the Chapel of Our Lady da Estrela, and the bands playing in the bandstands until the closing ceremony.
