about the place

Vale de Cambra is a town in the District of Aveiro, in the Metropolitan Area of Porto, covering 147 km² and home to around 21,000 inhabitants spread across seven parishes. It borders Arouca, São Pedro do Sul, Oliveira de Frades, Sever do Vouga and Oliveira de Azeméis. The municipality was formerly called Macieira de Cambra, with its seat in Macieira, until 31 December 1926, when a decree renamed it Vale de Cambra, with its seat in the settlement of Gandra, in Vila Chã, which also took the name Vale de Cambra. Prior to that, the municipality had been suppressed in 1895 and restored in 1898. The town was granted city status in 1993. Santo António is the patron saint of the municipality.
