São Pedro do Sul is located in the District of Viseu, nestled between the Serra da Arada, Serra da Gralheira and Serra de São Macário, in a landscape of green valleys, rivers and granite villages. Its history dates back to 1152, when D. Afonso Henriques granted the first royal charter to the town, recognising the importance of its thermal waters — still considered the largest thermal spa in Portugal today. The Municipality was created in 1836 from the division of the former Municipality of Lafões, a territory of deep roots and its own distinct identity.
