biography
The Sociedade Filarmónica Unânime Praiense is the philharmonic band of the parish of Praia do Almoxarife, in the municipality of Horta, on the island of Faial (Azores). It was founded on 3 October 1881 and has Nossa Senhora do Rosário as its patron saint; the first conductor, João António, led 16 musicians at the time.
In 1960 it won second place in the FNAT national band competition in Lisbon, and has represented the Azores at a festival on the mainland and on a tour of the United States. Its headquarters are on Caminho do Meio, in Praia do Almoxarife.
