biography
The Banda de Música dos Mineiros do Pejão was founded in 1949, within the mining community of Pejão, and currently has around 70 musicians. Throughout its history, it has brought its music to various parts of Portugal and abroad, establishing itself as an important link to the memory and cultural identity of this mining region.
The band's activities are supported by the Associação Cultural do Couto Mineiro do Pejão, founded in 1995 to carry on its work. Led by Francisco Manuel Sousa Moreira, the band's cultural contribution has been recognised with the status of Pessoa Coletiva de Utilidade Pública, granted in 2001.
