Festivities in Honour of Our Lady of Consolação

In the parish of Seixas, in the municipality of Caminha, the Festivities in Honour of Our Lady of Consolação are celebrated annually, a tradition that brings together religious devotion and community life. The festival is organised by the local parish together with the municipality, keeping alive the homage to the Virgin Mary, here invoked under the title of Our Lady of Consolação. As is typical of the festivities of Minho, the celebration combines religious moments with popular joy. Throughout the days of festivity there is traditional music, fireworks and the typical gastronomy of this region, which brings together the community and those who come from afar to take part.

Overlooking the estuary and the sea, Seixas, in the municipality of Caminha, is an ancient land that received its charter from King Afonso III in 1262 and has always lived in balance between farming and fishing. Here, heritage has a soul: the parish church marks the heart of the village, and nearby ancient devotions are kept alive in the chapels of São Bento and Our Lady of Consolação, the latter in Coura. It is a land of walking paths, freshly grilled fish over charcoal, and festivities that bring back those who have left.
