The Festas da Vergada are linked to the Parish of Cristo Rei da Vergada, established in 1972, whose church stands in this place of Argoncilhe. The parish tradition brings together several devotions: Cristo Rei, its patron, Our Lady of Livração and Our Lord das Febres.
The religious programme is prepared with the novena and culminates in the festive Eucharist followed by a procession, around which the days of music and celebration are organised, drawing people from across the parish and from neighbouring villages.
Vergada is one of the hamlets of Argoncilhe, the parish of Santa Maria da Feira closest to Porto, and it is here that the Church of Cristo Rei stands, built in the second half of the 20th century. Argoncilhe appears in documents dating back to 1086 and was linked for centuries to the Mosteiro de Grijó. Scattered across the parish are ancient chapels, such as that of Nossa Senhora das Neves, dating from 1581, and that of Santo António, from 1715, as well as a Roman bridge at the hamlet of Roçadas. Marian devotion remains alive, with a pilgrimage on the 25th of each month to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Graças e da Vitória.
