Feast in honour of Saint Cyprian

In the village of Aveleda, part of the União das Freguesias de Aveleda e Rio de Onor, in the municipality of Bragança, the Feast in honour of São Cipriano is celebrated every year — one of the most significant acts of devotion in this Trás-os-Montes community. The tradition centres on a pilgrimage to the chapel dedicated to São Cipriano, the highlight of a celebration that extends across a full cultural week. This is a small parish in the northeastern corner of Trás-os-Montes, also known for other traditions throughout the year, such as the caretos that mark the Christmas season. Nestled against the northeasternmost stretch of Portugal's border, Aveleda is a frontier village in the municipality of Bragança, set among hills and paths that for centuries linked these lands to neighbouring Spain.
