Festival in Honour of Saint Amador

The Festival in honour of Saint Amador, organised by the Association in honour of Saint Amador, took place from 30 July to 3 August 2026, in Santo Amador (Moura). On Thursday, the bar and restaurant opened, the illuminations were inaugurated, and there were performances by Duo Manuel e Márcia and DJ Miguel Morais. On Friday there was a dawn mortar salute, the inauguration of the street sound system, a vacada alentejana, sevillanas with Las Chiquitas, Rebeca, Queres é Pimba and DJ Zés. On Saturday there was a parade by SFUMA, a new vacada alentejana, Miguel Moura, a fireworks display, Sonido Andaluz, Banda Pack7 and Sunlize. On Sunday there was a solemn mass and procession in honour of Saint Amador, accompanied by the SFUMA band, followed by Porque Sí, Linhas Cruzadas, Manel João and DJ Pavarotti. On Monday there was the traditional largada molhada, the Círculo Artístico Musical Safarense, Classe Operária, David Melão and DJ Pingas.

Santo Amador is a village in the municipality of Moura, in the district of Beja (Baixo Alentejo), and was the seat of the former civil parish of Santo Amador, covering 72.63 km² and with 412 inhabitants in the 2011 census. In 2013, the parish was merged with those of Santo Agostinho and São João Baptista de Moura, forming the União das Freguesias de Moura (Santo Agostinho e São João Baptista) e Santo Amador. The former parish appears in 1600 in tax records as Barrada and, in the Memórias Paroquiais of 1758, as 'Barrada de Santo Amador'; the village grew up around the parish church, whose patron saint is Santo Amador. Near the river Ardila there is a watermill, and açorda de alho is a typical local dish.
