about the place
Terras de Bouro is located in the north of Portugal, in the District of Braga, embraced by the Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês. The landscape is one of granite and oak, cut through by streams and waterfalls, with villages of rural architecture where granaries and drying houses can still be seen. The municipality received a royal charter from D. Manuel I in 1514, a date that marks its establishment as a constituted settlement. The name of the municipality refers to the Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Bouro, in Amares, a religious and historical landmark that shaped the identity of this mountain region.
