biography
Rui Veloso is one of the most celebrated Portuguese singers, songwriters and musicians, often referred to as 'the father of Portuguese rock'. He was born on 30 July 1957 in Lisbon, but moved to Porto when he was just three months old, a city with which he would be forever linked. Self-taught, he began playing guitar at a young age, mastering the instrument by the time he was around fifteen.
Over a career spanning several decades, Rui Veloso established himself as a major reference in Portuguese music, and studies by Marktest have consistently ranked him among the favourite musicians of the Portuguese public. In 1996 he formed the group Rio Grande alongside other renowned musicians. He celebrated thirty years of his career in 2010 and, in 2009, released the album 'Rui Veloso ao Vivo no Pavilhão Atlântico'.
