The Banda Musical de Rio de Moinhos is a long-standing musical institution from the parish of Rio de Moinhos, in the municipality of Penafiel, founded on 1 May 1907. Over more than a century, it has made a significant contribution to the cultural heritage of the region, always with the support of the local community. Among its most notable figures is Armando Ferreira Cancela, who served as conductor for 48 years.
Established as an association in 1977, the band was honoured in 1996 with the Medalha de Merito Municipal Dourada awarded by the Câmara Municipal de Penafiel, in recognition of its cultural services. It continues to perform and enrich the cultural landscape, keeping the Portuguese philharmonic tradition alive.
